Review- Blogger Summary #3
This week on meredithakers.com Meredith is sharing about a professional development opportunity she recently attended called edcamp CY-Fair. This is a professional development opportunity where educators gather together with no agenda to learn and grown from each other's knowledge. Meredith shared her main take-aways from the experience.
The first idea Meredith shared from the edcamp was Positive Entrance Tickets. For this activity, at the start of each day the teacher would give every student a post it note with a different student's name on it. They would need to write a short, positive note to the student and then give the note back to that student. It is a quick easy way to spread positivity at the start of the day.
I know my students would love this activity. After reading Meredith's post, I tried to think of other ways to adapt this activity to fit different age groups or incorporate technology. It could be adapted to make it easier or quicker for younger students by having them write a positive adjective about their friend on the post-it note. This could also be adapted to use technology too. Older students with 1:1 technology could send an email to the student they are paired with instead of using a post-it note. This would spread positivity and teach students how to write and send emails using the technology they have available.
Another idea Meredith shared about from the edcamp was using Google My Maps in the classroom. At the beginning of the year studnets could create their own class map. Each student would locate any place they traveled over the summer and "drop a pin" to mark their location. Any time a student or teacher travels to a new place you can add new pins to the map. After plotting new locations on a map you could use technology to research all the different places. You can share your Google My Map with other google users too.
